What is this test? ANA by Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) is the "gold standard" method for performing the ANA test. It uses indirect immunofluorescence to visualize the autoantibodies, allowing for detection and visualization of different staining patterns. Test Instructions 📝 A blood sample taken from a vein in the arm. No special preparations are required. Reports The ANA IFA report is the most detailed. It will include: - Positive or Negative Result - Titer Level: Quantifies the concentration of the antibodies (e.g., 1:160). - Staining Pattern: Describes the specific pattern of fluorescence (e.g., speckled, homogeneous), which gives clues about the specific autoimmune disease. Why is it Done? 🤔 The ANA IFA is the preferred method for ANA testing because it is highly sensitive and provides valuable diagnostic information. It is done to: - Screen for suspected systemic autoimmune diseases. - Provide clinicians with information on both the presence and type of autoantibodies to guide further testing.
