What is this test? The APLA (Antiphospholipid Antibody) test is a panel of blood tests that look for autoantibodies that target phospholipids. These antibodies interfere with the body's normal blood clotting process and are characteristic of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). The panel typically includes: - Lupus Anticoagulant (LA) - Anticardiolipin Antibodies (aCL) - Anti-beta-2 Glycoprotein I Antibodies (aβ2GPI) Test Instructions 📝 One or more blood samples are drawn from a vein. You may be instructed to avoid certain anticoagulant medications before the test. Reports A diagnosis of APS usually requires at least one of the antibodies to be positive on two separate occasions, at least 12 weeks apart, along with a history of blood clots or pregnancy complications. Why is it Done? 🤔 The APLA tests are done to: - Investigate the cause of unexplained blood clots (thrombosis). - Determine the reason for recurrent miscarriages. - Help diagnose Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).
