What is this test? This test measures cortisol, the body's main stress hormone, at different times (e.g., 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.) to assess its diurnal rhythm. Levels are normally highest in the morning and lowest at night. Test Instructions 📝 Two blood samples are drawn at specific times. It's important to be relaxed, as stress affects levels. Reports - High Levels (especially in evening): Suggests Cushing's syndrome (excess cortisol). - Low Levels (especially in morning): Suggests adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease). Why is it Done? 🤔 To help diagnose Cushing's syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, and evaluate adrenal and pituitary function.
