What is this test? A Creatinine Kinase (CPK) test may be used to detect inflammation of muscles (myositis) or muscle damage due to muscle disorders (myopathies). Test instructions Alcohol: Please abstain from alcohol before the test. Medication: Any pre-existing medication should only be stopped after consultation with the referring Physician. Reports Soft Copy (Portal/Email) : If the sample is collected before 12 noon, then the report will get delivered as per Reporting Time / Maximum TAT (Turn Around Time) indicated with the test. For samples collected after 12 Noon, 12 hours may be added to the Report Turn Around Time Hard Copy: Delivered at home upon request. A small convenience fee may apply. Why is it Done? The CPK is a lab test that detects and verifies creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels in the blood and is used to diagnose any muscle damage in the body. CPK acts as a marker to detect health problems like heart attacks, asses reasons for chest pain, neurological disorders, death of muscular tissue, convulsions and to give information about the muscular dystrophy status of a patient. Low CPK levels are indicative of acute viral hepatitis and alcoholic liver disease. Thus, a CPK blood test would help diagnose several medical conditions and helps in treatment before further damage is caused.
