What is this test? The DHT test measures the level of Dihydrotestosterone, a potent male sex hormone derived from testosterone. It is associated with male pattern baldness and prostate enlargement. Test Instructions 📝 A blood sample is drawn from a vein. A morning sample may be preferred. Reports - High Levels: Linked to male pattern baldness and BPH in men, and hirsutism in women. - Low Levels: Seen in men with 5-alpha reductase deficiency or those taking inhibitor drugs. Why is it Done? 🤔 To investigate hirsutism in women, evaluate for 5-alpha reductase deficiency, or monitor treatment with inhibitor medications.
