What is this test? The ferritin test measures the amount of ferritin, a blood protein that contains iron. It is the most accurate single test to measure the body's total iron stores. Test Instructions 📝 A blood sample is drawn. You may be asked to fast. Reports - Low Levels: A clear sign of iron deficiency. - High Levels: Can be a sign of iron overload (hemochromatosis), but also inflammation, infection, or liver disease. Why is it Done? 🤔 To diagnose iron deficiency, differentiate types of anemia, and diagnose/monitor iron overload conditions.
