What is this test? The Lupus Anticoagulant (LA) test detects autoantibodies that, despite their name, increase the risk of forming blood clots (thrombosis). They interfere with clotting tests in the lab, making clotting time seem prolonged. Test Instructions 📝 A blood sample is drawn from a vein. It is crucial to inform the lab of any anticoagulant medications being taken. Reports The final result is reported as Positive or Negative. For a diagnosis of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), a positive result should be confirmed with a second test at least 12 weeks later. Why is it Done? 🤔 The LA test is ordered to: - Investigate the cause of unexplained blood clots. - Determine the reason for recurrent miscarriages. - Help diagnose Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). - Evaluate an unexpectedly prolonged Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) test.
