What is this test? The Protein S test measures the activity of Protein S, another natural anticoagulant that works with Protein C to prevent excessive clotting. Test Instructions 📝 A blood sample is drawn. Warfarin, pregnancy, and oral contraceptives can lower Protein S levels and should be noted. Reports Results are reported as a percentage of normal activity. A deficiency impairs the body's ability to control clotting, increasing the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Why is it Done? 🤔 To investigate unexplained venous blood clots and to screen for inherited clotting disorders.
