What is this test? Vitamin - B12 - Serum test helps in evaluating levels of water-soluble Vitamin B12 in the body. Vitamin B12 helps in blood cell production and proper nerve functioning. Blood sample is drawn from the vein in the arm. Test instructions Fasting- Not required. Alcohol- Please abstain from alcohol before the test. Medication- Any pre-existing medication should only be stopped after consultation with the referring Physician. Reports Soft Copy (Portal/Email): If the sample is collected before 12 noon, then the report will get delivered as per Reporting Time / Maximum TAT (Turn Around Time) indicated with the test. For samples collected after 12 Noon, 12 hours may be added to the Report Turn Around Time. Hard Copy: Delivered at home upon request. A small convenience fee may apply. Why is it Done? To help in the diagnosis of cause of anemia and neuropathy It is recommended in people having symptoms like numbness or tingling in the arms and legs, weakness, loss of balance, confusion, and memory problems. Routinely done in people who at risk of Vit. B12 deficiency like strict vegetarians, previous gastric bypass surgery, elderly people, breast feeding mothers, people suffering from diabetes.
